The SOCIALIST FORUM OF GHANA (SFG) was conceived as an activist Think Tank, committed to supporting the intellectual struggles of working people against imperialist exploitation and local repression. In reality, SFG has long been privileged to play broader roles in working people’s struggles. We have indeed articulated the case for improved working conditions and the rights to equitable access to social services, like housing, health, and education and tried to explain how these can be resolved decisively through socialism. But, we have also served in the here and now as an organisational resource for those compelled to campaign for these rights.
As SFG we also launched many projects aimed at advancing popular culture; fighting ignorance and superstition, with science; and generally challenging the neo-colonial order and the raw theft of our natural resources for the benefit of the global capitalist class and their elite surrogates in politics and business who pose as leaders of Ghana and Africa. The Standing Committee Report to Congress included in this Report captures the path which we have trod since 1993. We need not add to that. The significant point however is that the transition “Forum” to “Movement that we have now formalised is not about a change in our commitments. We remain, as SMG, steadfastly committed to uniting the struggles of all exploited and oppressed people in Ghana and across the world. We continue to stand with all people who resist imperialist aggression – especially those still fighting for national liberation. SMG is all about achieving a working structure which allows us to meet these obligations to working people more effectively. SMG is a vehicle that will support rapid growth, development, depth, and Impact.
We hope that this Report will provide a guide and reference point for our work in the next four years and help strengthen our work towards a decisive victory over capitalism in all its manifestations.
